It’s also used for other Internet applications and for reaching e-mail addresses.

Domain name registration is the most important thing before starting a website. Two website can’t use same names because it’s always unique that usually offers a public service as email the World Wide Web. So, owning your own URL is very important. After that you have to register your domain on one single set of web hosting account like - .net, .com, .in, .info, .edu etc.
Owning your own domain increase you business and it increases the chances of getting a high rank on search engines. Because when people think of your website, they will think it by your name or your company name. If your company name and URL is same then they don’t have to wonder what URL to type into the web browser to get there.

If you can’t get the domain name of your choice then you can buy that domain from the current owner. You can contact that person and buy. If he is willing to sell then that domain can transfer to your name. This is called Transfer of Domain.
