The eyelid lift procedure is on the rise among both women and men, according to recent cosmetic surgery statistics. The surgery is so popular because it has both aesthetic and functional benefits, explains Manhattan-based oculoplastic surgeon Bruce K. Moskowitz.
Also known as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, blepharoplasty is the third most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the Unites States, after breast augmentation and rhinoplasty, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Blepharoplasty's popularity is rapidly growing, with the number of eyelid surgery procedures increasing by 42 percent in recent years, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
"Blepharoplasty can correct the issue of baggy eyes, reduce the signs of aging or improve vision," Dr. Moskowitz explains. Dr. Moskowitz received his B.S. from Wesleyan University in 1983. In 1987, he received his M.D. from SUNY Downstate Medical School. Dr. Moskowitz then went on to a residency in Ophthalmology. He continued post-doctoral training in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. The doctor is an active member of the Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Service there and maintains his private practice at the Infirmary.
