Hoffmann-La Roche (Roche) made a $43.7 billion bid for all the outstanding shares of Genentech on 21st July, 2008. Since 1999, Roche has been a majority shareholder with 55.9 percent of Genentech’s shares. This deal amounts to $89 per share for the remaining 44% of Genentech shares.
According to the Medical eTrack estimates, the global in-vitro diagnostics market was valued at $29.1 billion in 2007 with a CAGR of 5.7 percent between 2000 and 2007.
