October 27 2010 - Some £118 million of potential business transactions are expected to be generated at the inaugural Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum event at London ExCeL this December (7-8th). The event – hosted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) – delivers three conference programmes and 60 top-line speakers and showcases the best of UK science and technology to a global audience.

The event will provide businesses, organisations and academia with the opportunity to present their products, solutions and knowledge to an unrivalled international audience. With more than 2,000 industry professionals from 750 companies are expected to attend, the UKTI anticipates that some 3,000 meetings will take place at the venue – equating to about 175 meetings every hour.

Lasting two days, Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum 2010 includes face-to-face meetings, an exhibition, awards and a seminar and workshop programme. It has grown substantially since last year – when Technology World ’09 and UK NanoForum ’09 were separate events.

“With the highest proportion of eHQs, ICT-related jobs and technology universities, the UK has a lot to offer the global market place,” comments David Sharp, Sector Specialist Science and Innovation at UKTI. “In order to protect that unique position and to ensure we stay at the forefront of technological developments, it is imperative that we find ways to foster international relationships. This event is the perfect vehicle for that.”

Also critical to retaining the UK’s reputation as a world-leading research base (currently second only to the USA) is continued focus on emerging technologies and their commercialisation, not just here in the UK but Internationally, something that previous NanoForum events have been key in supporting. This focus will continue at the combined event, with showcases for emerging technologies and University research and University Excellence Awards.

“We often see examples of collaboration between UK businesses and academia, what we need to ensure is that those collaborations are as prolific on an international scale as they are here in the UK,” continues Sharp. “It will be global meeting places such as this year’s Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum that will be critical to making that a reality.”

The event provides opportunities for business-to-business collaboration, ensuring that companies of all sizes from SMEs to large corporations have the chance to network and learn from each other.

A ‘Business Partnering Opportunities’ section forms part of Day 1 along with a series of ‘Technology Pitches’ on Day 1 and 2, where SME’s can present their ideas to potential investors.
