FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 04 2010:The new movie Fat City., New Orleans” emphasizes the long-standing history of deregulation of alcohol when 18, 19 and 20 year olds (along with other adults) could buy and consume alcoholic beverages in the 1970s before the Federal Highway Funds Act created a tipping point for states to lose matching federal highway funds unless the drinking age was raised to 21 to satisfy the political interests of the late1980s.

In a historic move, California’s proposition 19, in 2010, has put to the voters of California, a legal maneuver to effectively deregulate the purchase and consumption of personal amounts of marijuana for recreational use in the same way that adults can now legally purchase alcohol. California’s prop 19 pits California state regulations against federal regulations in a way that hasn’t been seen since the1980s…interestingly in the opposite direction by having states attempting to overturn Federal law.

The trailer of the movie, www.FatCityNewOrleans.com, which has become a viral video on YouTube since its posting on October 28th is slated for wide release in 2011. The movie emphasizes High School teenagers in the 1979 suburb of New Orleans (Fat City), as they go to nightclubs and discos when the drinking age was just 18 years old and not really enforced. It is Paul’s senior year and Ashley wants to be his girlfriend, but the cops and a roving eye keeps Paul chasing cheerleaders and young models in his Babylon Modeling Class. Tara, Paul’s ex-girlfriend has other things in mind. This coming of age comedy has background score by “That 70s Show” composer and spotlights the “high” days of 1979.

As voters in California make their voices heard on November 2nd about State versus Federal laws, the movie Fat City, New Orleans could make audiences rethink if the legal discrimination against 18, 19 and 20 year olds as a minority class of adults should continue to be legal as it applies to the purchase and
consumption of alcohol.
