With Britain reeling from nationwide cuts to public spending, a Welsh company has been identified amongst a handful of new businesses that will help get the country back on track after the devastating effects of the recession.

The company, who offer translation and language services, were this month commended by the Secretary of State for Business, Vince Cable, and former Minister of State for UK Trade and Investment, Lord Digby Jones, at a star-studded Awards Ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, London. Veritas were praised for offering innovative services tailored specifically to help support new UK exporters, such as their one of a kind multilingual call centre and multilingual branding and SEO services.

The Awards Ceremony celebrated the best of British Start Up Businesses, who will be the key to steering Britain out of the recession, say experts. New and innovative businesses, particularly those exporting their products and services, will create wealth for the country and open up greater employment opportunities, helping to balance out the effects of the recent spending cuts. Veritas Language Solutions, an example of a thriving new British start-up, are not only trading internationally themselves but are also helping other British companies to do the same.

Having been trading for just over a year, Veritas has grown at an incredible rate, now employing over 1500 translators from all over the world and covering over 100 languages. They are now using their knowledge of foreign markets to aid other young companies to make the transition into trading overseas. Veritas’ Commercial Director, Sharon Stephens explains “We realise that trading abroad can be a very frightening thought for many companies but it is imperative that they make the step overseas so that we can start bringing more wealth into the country. We aim to act as a ‘language arm’ to our clients, providing a level of support and advice that is tailored to their specific needs so that any fears are banished completely.”

As winners of the HSBC Start Up Stars International Business award, Veritas’ directors were described by Lord Digby Jones as an “inspiration”. The two young mothers, Sharon Stephens and Rachel Bryan, set up the business from Sharon’s dining room table and have had to put in an incredible amount of determination and hard work in order for the company to succeed. They are now in the running for two other National Business Awards – the Natwest Everywoman Award and the Start Ups Award. Let’s hope that more British companies will follow suit so that the UK really can start trading its way out of the recession.
