Asiabizservices Offers Singapore Business Name Registration Service

A name must not have ill meaning. It should not violate morals and ethics. Nor should it signify indecency, obscenity, or corruption. Likewise, it must not suggest inappropriately.

A businessman of wisdom understands very well that a great name for a business is the beginning of a great brand. Many invest on registering their business name for trademarks. Retail businesses see the need to be creative and smart in naming their company.

Consumers give emphasis on a brand because it represents reputation. A brand or name reflects the product’s quality. Most often than not, a business name can shape its future, either successful or failure. Successful businesses are influential and many business wannabes harbor the idea of coming up with a business name that sounds closest to a favorite and successful brand.

“Investors determined to take advantage of the business landscape of Singapore should first seek the approval of ACRA to register a business name,” retorts Asiabiz Services’ business specialist Chi Han, reminding that effective January 2003, ACRA shall focus on three criteria in evaluating a business name.

To begin, ACRA shall assess that a proposed business name is not identical to another. “By being identical, a business name should not literally or nearly copy another business name,” Han continues, providing a few concrete examples, “A & K Consultancy may be identical to an existing AK Consultancy.”

Another example given is a proposed name Kizmet’s Artworks. It should be checked for similarity such as Kishmet’s Art Creations, K.izmet’s Works of Arts, or Kyzmet’s Art Ideas.

“A name should not be undesirable,” Hun says referring to the second criterion of choosing a business name. A name must not have ill meaning. It should not violate morals and ethics. Nor should it signify indecency, obscenity, or corruption. Likewise, it must not suggest inappropriately.

ACRA does not approve names that fall into a category that the Minister has been directed by the Registrar not to accept.

Also, Chi Han points out that, “In case a business name has been approved for a new company, and another has filed a complaint with ACRA against that, ACRA shall uphold the name of the latter and direct the former to change its business name.”

For certainty and to save resources, ACRA urges investors to check a business name before proposing it to ACRA.

Asiabiz Services provides free name availability check service for investors wishing to establish a business presence in Singapore. Han says of Asiabiz Services’ service, “clients are requested to prepare two business names by filling up an online application.” After checking for conformity and availability, clients are notified of the result through an e-mail.

Mostly, clients continue to engage the services of Asiabiz Service to push through with the business establishment. Foreign investors are not allowed to handle the company registration personally unless they are eligible by owning a labor pass. Asiabiz Services also offers corporate solutions to accounting and secretarial needs of businesses.
