Travelling by rail is a great way to see a country. You will arrive at your destination much quicker when you take a plane but you won't really get to see a lot along the way. Here are just a few great reasons for choosing to travel by rail.

Kent, UK - January 19, 2011 -- Travelling by train is actually very relaxing. When you travel by train you can sit back and enjoy a great book or just relax by watching the world pass you by; you never have that rushed feel when sitting on a train. When you travel by rail it is as much about the trip as it is about reaching your destination.
Because your body gets used to the time as you are travelling, you do not end up suffering with jet lag.
Train travel is more environmentally friendly. It is reassuring to know that you are causing a lot less pollution during your trip than you would be by flying.
If you are travelling to a city by train, you will usually end up right in the heart of that city when you get off the train. Airports will tend to be far from your destination and so you will have more travelling once you land. In a lot of cases you will be able to step out of a train station and find a nearby hotel right beside all the important tourist attractions.
You can buy train tickets which will allow you to travel for a certain period of time on a train and you can just get on and off the train whenever you like. This means that you can buy a ticket for a certain time period and just explore Europe by rail.
The great thing for those of us living in the UK is that we can now get to Europe by train in the Channel Tunnel so it is much easier for us to get around the whole continent.
Nowadays, many individuals are driving to their foreign vacation destination}. Lots of people head straight to the south coast for the ferry to france. This often saves being worried about driving through the tunnel and being concerned about euro tunnel prices. At the end of the day there isn't a better way of getting in some Calais shopping?
