Sachin Tendulkar added yet another feather in his cap with the Castrol Cricketer of the year award. The Castrol awards were instituted in 1997 to recognize and honour outstanding performers in cricket. The main awards include the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year, the Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year and the Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar bagged the Cricketer of the Year Award for his exemplary performance in test cricket. Sachin who was present at the event with his wife, Anjali said that he wanted to achieve more and was proud to be a part of the Indian team that had cricketers like Mohinder Amarnath and Sunil Gavaskar. Alongwith the trophy, Sachin was also awarded a prize money of two lakhs. Some of the other players to have won the Castrol accolades included Yusuf Pathan, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid.
The Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes and rewards outstanding contribution to Indian cricket. The contenders for this award could be cricketers, coaches, umpires, administrators or media persons - anyone who is considered to have contributed to the cause of Indian cricket. This year Mohinder Amarnath was given the Castrol Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cricket. At the event, while praising the new breed of cricketers, Mohinder Amarnath said that it was great to have players like Yusuf Pathan, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid in the Indian team, but it was the performance on a particular day that mattered.
