West Bromwich, West Midlands April 04, 2011 - A more accurate and efficient alternative to torque tightening techniques for steam generators is now available from Tentec, a leading designer and manufacturer of bolt tensioning equipment. The innovative Multi Stud Tensioning System (MSTS) is a portable system designed to simultaneously tension all studs on system closures such as primary and secondary manways, handwheel and valve covers.

The main benefit of the MSTS is that it applies a predictable and accurate preload to all studs at the same time. This means that problems often associated with uneven preloading, such as closure leakage and broken fasteners are all eliminated, so avoiding unscheduled downtime and improving efficiency. Also, as the hydraulic pressure is applied simultaneously to each stud tensioner, the whole procedure can be carried out rapidly. As well as saving man-hours, Tentec has found that this is particularly useful in high radiation areas where using the MSTS is consistent with meeting ALARA objectives.

All multi-stud tensioning systems are custom designed and built in-house with Tentec providing a no obligation design and quote. All systems feature a profile cut body to reduce weight, single hydraulic inlet connection per segment and rare earth magnets embedded in the nut rotating sockets for ease of assembly. If space is at a premium, designs can include elliptical pistons/rams and to optimize weight variable bolt chambers per chamber can be incorporated.
