Stannah helping students unwind in Lincoln College, Oxford

Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom (prbd.net) 19/05/2011
May 19th 2011 - Downtime is a crucial aspect of academia and the recent installation of a StannahStairiser CR (curved rail) wheelchair platform lift in Lincoln College in the heart of Oxford has ensured that students of all mobility levels can access a range of leisure facilities.

Located outside in the 19th-century Grove Quad, the StannahStairiser CR platform lift brings full access from ground level to the basement student bar and games area with television, daily newspapers and seating. In action since November 2010, the lift navigates a concrete-and-stone staircase with a 90 degree turn, and folds flush against the smooth operating rail when not in use. This leaves the maximum width of the stairway available for pedestrians.

For use by a 225kg wheelchair and occupant, the Stairiser CR is safe and easy to operate using a joystick control on the carriage and constant-pressure, wireless control buttons at the top and bottom landings. Travelling at a speed of 0.06m/s, the lift is fully automatic with an electrically controlled folding platform and barrier arms. Ramps aid access to the platform and rise to secure the wheelchair when in motion.

Responsible for specifying the StannahStairiser CR, Lincoln College Surveyor, Stuart White, comments: “Previous experience of Stannah lifts reassured me that this national lift manufacturer would provide a reliable, cost-effective platform lift. The installation of the Stairiser CR not only brings access for all to essential time-out facilities but also ensures that the College continues to meet with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 as fully as possible.”

Supplied with a comprehensive 1-year maintenance contract, the new Stairiser CR is serviced by the Brackley branch of Stannah Lift Services. Brackley is just one of eleven branches that comprise Stannah Lift Services nationwide network for the repair, modernisation and refurbishment and maintenance of all types of lifts, stairlifts, escalators and moving walkways from theStannah product range, and also other lift manufacturers’ equipment.
