Adding a mixer shower to your bathroom is one of the simplest options in terms of installation and also choice. With a mixer shower you have the option of either a standalone unit, maybe inside a shower cubicle or a shower over a bath.

When you compare the style of your bathroom to the options of mixer showers available to you, you will realise the sheer vast amount of options available when it comes to choosing your shower. From the classic or conventional designs to the more groundbreaking, almost experimental designs, the choice is massive. With a few simple tips and a bit of prior knowledge, finding the perfect shower for your bathroom will be simple.

A mixer shower works by simply mixing the two inputs, the hot and cold water supplies, in a valve called a mixer valve, hence the term mixer shower. After you adjust the handle/lever the valve will adjust the flow rates of the appropriate water supply to achieve the desired water heat level. When buying a mixer shower you should ensure that your water pressure is suitable. Mixer showers are suitable for high or low pressure and suit houses with a boiler or water heater. Some systems which are of lower pressures can be boosted with a booster pump to make it much more powerful.

Many of todays more modern mixer showers have a built in thermostatic valve, which is a marvel in terms of safety features. A thermostatic mixer valve (TMV) is a valve which blends together the hot and cold water similarly to a normal mixer valve, with the added exception that the temperature is a much more constant one. Storing water at a high temperature also removes a possible breeding ground for various waterborne bacteria, such as Legionella, which is part of the species of bacterium that can cause Legionnaire’s disease. By controlling the temperature of your water supply with the use of a TMV, you can increase both the time you save for other relaxing activities and also the amount of water you consume from not having to run the hot water tap.

Whether you’re planning to make use of existing space within a bathroom, or have a fresh install to do, the use of a mixer shower is a smart choice in today’s fast paced world. Grabbing a minute or two a day to yourself can come as a blessing, and by installing a mixer shower you’ll no doubt find yourself with many minutes to yourself, which you may just chose to spend relaxing under the unrelenting, warm, enjoyable stream of water from your brand new mixer shower.
