One of the pillars of a strong democracy is its legislation. Legislations play an important role in the administration of a democracy and their successful implementation strengthens the roots of a nation. The Maharashtra Vidhanmandal (Assembly) completes 75 glorious years of existence and this week Reportaaz will analyze the role of Maharashtra assembly in image of progressive state. The Maharashtra Assembly has been a pioneer in introducing many pro-people laws that have proved to be highly effective and beneficial. It was among the first states to initiate landmark laws such as the Pre conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act in 1994 which prohibited sex selection, the Employment Guarantee Scheme (1972) which assured equality to all in terms of employment, free education to girls and major woman policies such as 33 % reservation in the Maharashtra Panchayat system. The assembly has been proficient in making accurate decisions for the citizens and it has contributed greatly to the overall development of the state.
