As pointed out by Shaw Capital Management Online and a baffled but very pleased virtual world, Google seems to be in a product launching spree.

Just this month they introduced WDYL (What Do You Love?), which deviates from a traditional search result of listed links and instead presents you with a dynamic result page derived from your keyword — everything from videos to books and patents are included.

And of course, who could forget the soft launch of the features-packed Google+, the search engine’s answer to social networking. With 10 million registered users on the Beta mode, it will undoubtedly rival Facebook once it’s been made available for everyone.

PhotoVine, the photo-sharing service that’s making the rounds on the web today has raised questions as to why Google launched it quietly. The answer might be because Google, apparently, does not want to be involved as it is not from them per se, but from Slide, a company they have acquired.

PhotoVine lets you publicly share pictures under a theme (e.g. warm and fuzzy, Asian cuisine, beautiful landscapes, etc), wherein other people can also add their own choice of photos. Images captured from an iPhone, for instance, can easily be uploaded in PhotoVine. This will create a collection of photos, called Vines, which is pretty much social networking in terms of images.

Surprisingly, this service is marketed as an Apple iPhone app, a rival of Google’s Android. Even in the teaser video they released, iPhone is prominently seen as the device it is aimed for. Perhaps it’s just another marketing strategy on their part; PhotoVine for iPhone and Picasa for Android. So whatever smartphone you have, chances are, you’ll be using one of their services.

As with other Google offerings in the past that is starting out, PhotoVine is only available to invited users, as of now. But there has been no announcement whatsoever on Google’s part, either in their official blog or Twitter account. Looks like they will not be marketing this as a Google product, but will let the Slide team function on their own. And then probably when it proved to be successful, it will be added to Google’s mainstream offerings.

But even with an obvious lack of branding association with the search engine giant, reports continue to associate PhotoVine with Google.

Last month, Shaw Capital Management Online got wind of reports about Google having trademarked “PhotoVine” which hinted of a possible photo-sharing service. However, it resulted in a confusion because of the presence of the more senior Picasa which is also a photo-sharing service under Google.

About Shaw Capital Management Online

Shaw Capital Management Online was born from a rather unfavorable school project addressing the “How do you make a website user-friendly?” issue. Apparently, we have an uncanny knack in making something unlikable into something, er, more likable. We never really knew it’d be this big, but hey, why not make it official? So we launched SCM Online where we can share, not just the most popular, but the most interesting pieces of news at any given time.

Our team keeps this website updated several times a day to keep up with fast-paced news updates worldwide.

Basically, we aim to be the most reliable news portal online that provides all the timely and engaging stories, mostly from the following niche: Technology, Finance and Lifestyle. We offer an alternative venue for users to view the latest news minus all the clutter.

We also accommodate active participation from our visitors (you!), so if you find something interesting, erroneous, terrible or inspiring, feel free to leave your two cents.
