In a very important and positive development for the PGDM institutions of the country the honorable Supreme Court of India today, 26 July 2011, extended the interim stay against the AICTE notification by another one year.

The order for extension of the interim stay was delivered today by the honourable Supreme Court after hearing the arguments from EPSI counsel Mr. Rajeev Dhawan, AIMS counsel Mr. Venugopal and Jaipuria Group of Instiutitions counsel Mr. Vinay Garg who pleaded to the Court to allow PGDM institutions a free hand in conducting their admissions process.

The apex court had earlier on March 17, 2011 -- hearing the writ petition filed by EPSI, AIMS and Group of PGDM institutions – had granted relief to the PGDM institutions of the country against the notification issued by AICTE on 28 December 2010.

With the extension of the stay the decks are now cleared for the PGDM institutions of the country to prepare the ground for a smoother and much well structured admissions process for the batch of 2012-14.

This extension of the stay comes as a big relief to the B-schools as they can continue to use any of the nationally recognized entrance tests like CAT & MAT for the admissions to the 2012-14 batch. The B-schools can continue to exercise freedom to conduct their own GD-PI for admissions next year.

On today’s decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, Dr H Chaturvedi, Alternate President, EPSI & Director, BIMTECH, said, "The Hon’ble Supreme Court has given a big relief to PGDM institutes, aspiring candidates and their parents by allaying fears and uncertainties about the admissions to the PGDM institutions for the academic year 2012-13."

"I compliment the PGDM institutions for their united and consistent opposition to the moves of AICTE for scuttling the autonomy enjoyed by these institutions since long. It is indeed ironical that the Ministry of HRD was engaged in restoring greater autonomy to IIMs and IITs for making them world class while allowing AICTE to withdraw the autonomy granted to the PGDM institutions," added Dr. Chaturvedi.

According to news available with MBAUniverse.com, the court has allowed AICTE to launch its own MBA entrance test. This test by AICTE will not be a mandatory test, but additional test to the existing five tests like CAT, MAT, XAT, which are approved by Ministry of HRD.

With the status quo maintained by the honourable Supreme Court the PGDM institutions are now more optimistic about getting the final verdict in their favour.

This extension of the interim relief is a victory for the PGDM institutions and this has been made possible due to the relentless efforts put in by EPSI, AIMS and Jaipuria Group of Institutions, all of which passionately voiced the concerns of the PGDM institutions of the country with respect to the unwarranted AICTE notification.
