Spicing Up Half Term for Kids

In a unique attempt to familiarize children with common Indian spices, Cinnamon Kitchen is organizing a workshop for kids aged 5-11, on August 15, 2011, where kids will get to examine, touch, feel, and smell various Indian spices and take home some flavors to be used at home.

London’s best Indian restaurant, Cinnamon Kitchen has come to parents’ rescue during the summer holidays with a fun, educational and quite literally sensational package to introduce kids to the world of spices.
On Monday 15th August 2011, Cinnamon Kitchen’s chefs will be hosting an interactive Spice Workshop that will immerse children in the smell and flavour of Indian spices, as best featured in the restaurant’s contemporary dishes.
Aimed at children from 5 to 11 years old, they will examine, touch, feel and smell various spices in their natural forms. Armed with their own safe-to-use utensils, they will grate, crush, pound, pestle and stir the spices, making them ready for use in cooking.
Across the two-hour session, which runs from 11am until 1pm, classmates and their parents will encounter a full range of sensory flavours from spices including tamarind, angelica, coriander seed, liquorice, cardamom, anise, peppers, cloves, saffron, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric and cassia.
They will also experience the flavours in delicately spiced, child friendly canapés and Indian snacks, and be able to take them home so mum and dad can recreate some of the dishes using Cinnamon Kitchen’s special recipe cards. A special ‘Top Chef’ certificate will be given to all children alongside a spice booklet and an exclusive spice bag to takeaway.
Vivek Singh, executive chef of the top restaurant Cinnamon kitchen says: “It’s never too early to introduce children to new taste experiences and to broaden the horizons of their palate – and of course they’ll learn lots and have plenty of fun grinding and grating. Mums and dads will also learn some new skills and will be able to create a new repertoire of dishes to feed the family too.”
Places at this exclusive event are priced at £25 per child for under 11yr olds. Mum and Dads can enjoy lunch from the à la carte menu or a two course set lunch for £15 or three courses for £18.
