Praise Pours In As Automechanika Celebrates 40 Glorious Years

Middle East Edition Making Great Strides With Unprecedented Growth
Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (prbd.net) 20/09/2011
Industry leaders, prominent automotive aftermarket manufacturers and suppliers, trade associations and exhibitors have extended their congratulations to Messe Frankfurt GmbH, for the completion of 40 successful years of running internationally acclaimed trade fair Automechanika.
What started off as a small show launched to meet the demand from trade associations in Frankfurt, Automechanika has now grown into the world’s leading business platform for the supplier industry, the workshop sector and the trade.
It all began in 1971, when leading automotive trade associations, especially the Federation of the German Motor Vehicle Trade (Zentralverband Deutsches Kraftfahrzeug¬gewerbe e. V. – ZDK), called for an event for the automotive parts and accessories suppliers following the cancellation of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Around 500 companies and 75,000 visitors from 63 countries came to Frankfurt for the première. The partici¬pants were delighted and the results were good. Accordingly, it was decided to hold the new fair in the years between the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Today, Automechanika is not only one of the leading fairs organised by Messe Frankfurt, but It is also the world’s most international trade-fair brand, being held at eleven venues world¬wide besides Frankfurt, namely: Moscow, Shanghai, Bangkok, St. Petersburg, Dubai, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Kuala Lumpur, Madrid, Istanbul and Johannesburg. Frankfurt continues to be the home venue having attracted 4,471 exhibitors and 155,000 visitors from 181 countries last year alone.
Apart from the acknowledged success of the Frankfurt event, Automechanika has been making great strides in the Middle East too. Automechanika Middle East was selected as the region’s fastest growing trade show by the Trade Show Executive’s Fastest 50. The 2011 edition of the event was a resounding success, drawing in the participation of 1,102 exhibitors from 52 countries, 90% of whom were international. The event attracted 17,310 trade visitors from 130 countries, underlining the fact that the Middle East market is significantly important to the aftermarket sector.
“Automechanika Middle East has, since the beginning, endeavored to meet and anticipate the needs of this rapidly evolving market,” said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “Our marketing teams have been diligently researching and analysing feedback from our partners to deliver a highly targetted and result-oriented event that has now grown to be one of our most successful brands,” he added.
Among the exhibitors congratulating Messe Frankfurt GmbH on the 40th anniversary was Michael Söding, President of Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket, who said: “Automechanika is the ideal interface for international communica¬tion with our focus groups – the trade and workshops. And it is a magnet for visitors distinguished by top quality and outstanding international contacts.”
Wolfgang Steube, General Manager of Partslife, said: “I have been coming to Automechanika for the last 20 years. For me, it is always like a ‘family reunion’ where I can meet many old acquaintances from the automobile industry.”
“We invited six and a half thousand delegates to last year’s Automechanika! For us, this fair is a unique international platform for the presentation of our products. We are planning to expand into Asia and North America soon and, to this end, will also take advantage of the Automechanika brand and its events around the world,” said Rolf Wuehrl, Chairman and CEO of AuDaCon AG.
This year Automechanika Middle East was the largest trade fair ever held for the region’s automotive aftermarket with an 18% growth in overall size and almost 9% increase in trade visitors. The top five visiting countries to this year’s edition after UAE were Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India and Kuwait. This came at a time when Dubai’s direct trade in the automotive aftermarket for Quarter 1, 2011 enjoyed an 11% increase over the same period in 2010. The dates for Automechanika Middle East 2012 have been announced from May 22nd to 24th at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
