Traditionally key players in the transport of goods and people across the Middle East region, the countries of the Gulf continue to play significant roles in the rapidly developing world of the materials handling, supply chain and transport industries. This is being underlined by the response to Materials Handling Middle East 2011, which is set to kick off tomorrow (September 25th) and continue until Tuesday, September 27th at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Organised by Epoc Messe Frankfurt, the three-day event brings together the who’s who of the materials handling, supply chain, freight and cargo service providers of the wider Middle East region.
A bi-annual event, the 2011 edition will be inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, CEO, Al Fajer Group, President, Al Fajer Properties and Chairman, Dubai Holding. He will be accompanied by government officials and senior management from organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt during the inaugural tour.
“The Middle East region is going through a phase of exciting growth,” said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “Rapid economic growth in the region has escalated the demand for consumables, goods and services, while at the same time the growing worldwide appetite for the region’s oil and gas stocks shows no signs of slowing down. All this contributes to the steady market for the materials handling, supply chain and transport facilities across the region,” he added.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates and President of Dubai Civil Aviation, Materials Handling Middle East 2011 promises to feature a range of manufacturers, suppliers, operators and service providers keen to tap into the markets of the region.
The event will also feature a slew of product launches and a display of significant new developments that are impacting the industry worldwide. Going by initial feedback, response from the industry remains strong; this year’s edition is also expected to be a strong draw card for the international industry.
Other areas of key interest will be the opportunities offered by the range of facilities, transport and cargo infrastructure being put in place across the region. New air cargo and passenger terminals, container terminals and sea port developments, oil and gas trans-shipment facilities, intercontinental railway infrastructure and national and trans-national road transport projects are either currently underway or in the pipeline across the countries of the region.
These developments combined with the progressive outlook of the governments of the GCC, promise to transform the state of the industry and turn it into a major player on the international scene.
Industry professionals will also be interested in the comprehensive conference and seminar programme taking place alongside the trade event. Over three days the conferences, workshops and seminars will feature a series of international thought leaders throwing light on key developments, trends and new regulations in the industry. The conferences are being held in cooperation with The House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM), Frankfurt; The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport International UAE (CILT-UAE) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
