A FATHER DIES BY SUICIDE WHILE HIS DAUGHTER IS PREGNANT WITH TRIPLETS
Barbara Rubel lived through a nightmare and now helps others be resilient at Open to Hope Foundation

Those touched by suicide, overdose or homicide now have an opportunity to share their experience with others at the Open to Hope Foundation website. Barbara Rubel has been appointed as a Forum Editor and will be responding to posts.

“All too often people can’t afford counselors or drive to support groups and may have friends or co-workers who don’t know how to help them,” Rubel said. “The Open to Hope Foundation is giving these folks a place to confidentially share their story. Isn’t that what we need? A place that allows us to gently open our hearts, and hope, that by doing so, they will gradually heal.” Rubel’s hope is that visitors to the suicide, overdose and homicide forum will experience positive growth and find meaning in their experience.

The journey Barbara Rubel took to get to the pinnacle of her profession began when her father, a retired New York City Police Officer, died by suicide three weeks before the birth of her triplets. Barbara devoted the first part of her career helping those traumatically bereaved and the second half advancing the health and wellness of professional helpers.

Rubel’s book, But I Didn’t Say Goodbye: Helping children and families after a suicide is a valuable resource for professionals and those touched by traumatic loss. Today as a successful keynote speaker, Rubel has become a leading industry expert on workplace wellness and building resilience.
