Eaton’s Hybrid technology grabs limelight at Auto Expo 2012
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation, a global leader in diversified power management solutions, showcased its capabilities and offerings to the commercial vehicle, off-highway and passenger car segments at Auto Expo 2012. Major OEMs, technology companies, component manufacturers and Industry leaders visited the Eaton stall and engaged in focused interactions with Eaton representatives.

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation, a global leader in diversified power management solutions, showcased its capabilities and offerings to the commercial vehicle, off-highway and passenger car segments at Auto Expo 2012. Major OEMs, technology companies, component manufacturers and Industry leaders visited the Eaton stall and engaged in focused interactions with Eaton representatives.
Eaton leaders Kenneth F. Davis, global president - Vehicle Group, John Coll, vice president, Global Marketing, Vehicle Group and Howard Liu, president – Asia Pacific, Vehicle Group were present at the Expo along with Raja Kochar - managing director – India and Krishnakumar Srinivasan, managing director – Vehicle Group India.
The highlight of Eaton’s stall at the expo was the display of Eaton’s Hybrid technology. Eaton is a global leader in design, development and manufacturing of hybrid systems for commercial vehicles. To create a hybrid commercial vehicle, Eaton combines a vehicle’s traditional internal combustion engine with an electric motor or a hydraulic launch assist system to move the vehicle forward and then through regenerative braking the system recharges itself. Eaton’s hybrid systems provide their greatest value in trucks and buses that burn tremendous amounts of fuel by stopping and starting and commercial vehicles that idle at work sites to run accessories or tools. Eaton’s hybrid system is well suited for applications that require frequent starts and stops as experienced by city and shuttle buses.
“Our Hybrid system ensures 25-30 per cent fuel efficiency and significant reduction in emission levels. This enables us to leave a better legacy and greener footprints for our coming generations.” Krishnakumar Srinivasan commented.
Eaton products also were an integral part of major OEM displays at Auto Expo 2012.
• AMW displayed 4928 Tractor New Generation and 3721 Truck that come with Eaton’s 9-speed Twin Countershaft transmission. AMW’s 1628 Bus with Eaton’s 6-speed Retarder Compatible transmission was also displayed at the expo
• Mahindra Navistar’s display included 25 Ton Transit Mixer, 31 Ton Bulker, 25 Ton Refrigerated Haulage and 31 Ton Haulage – all of which come with Eaton’s 6-speed transmission
• Tata Motors showcased its LPS 7548 which comes with UltraShift™ PLUS – the high performance 18-speed AMT system from Eaton that provides highly differentiated value for extreme vehicle applications
• Eaton’s Automotive products that go into virtually every OEM in India
Eaton has a fully equipped plant at Ranjangaon in Pune manufacturing transmissions for domestic and international markets. Eaton is expanding its presence in India through its wide distribution and service networks across the country. The company has an integrated Test Lab providing strong capability to conduct hardware tests to validate current and future designs for both global and regional products. The Indian operations are further strengthened by a team of dedicated engineers providing new product design services, system design services and existing product engineering support as part of the India Engineering Center in Pune.

Engine Valves and Valve Actuation:
Eaton produces more than a million engine valves per day for nearly every automaker and engine
manufacturer in the world and we have been pioneering innovations in Variable Valve Actuation technology for over a quarter of a century. At Auto Expo 2012, Eaton displayed Engine Valves that hold very strong failure analysis capabilities which help in system optimization and standardization. Eaton’s display also included valve actuation products used extensively in automotive, heavy duty, motorcycle/ ATV, construction, industrial and marine equipment that reduce emissions and ensure superior fuel efficiency and engine performance.
Torque Control Products:
Eaton is the world's largest independent producer of traction modifying differentials for vehicle manufacturers, the automotive aftermarket, and commercial and military vehicle manufacturers. Eaton leverages its differentials expertise, which includes vehicle and traction dynamics, to continuously expand the product lineup and introduce differentials to new and emerging markets. At Auto Expo 2012, Eaton displayed ELocker, MLocker, Suretrac, Truetrac, No Spin and Limited Slip Differential products
Superchargers:
Eaton’s patented Twin Vortices Series superchargers feature twin four-lobe rotors, twisted 160 degrees. The original Eaton supercharger features three lobes twisted 60 degrees, the fourth lobe and added twist, when combined with redesigned air inlet and outlet ports, creates a smoother, more efficient flow of air into the engine. In addition to improved overall efficiency, Eaton Twin Vortices Series superchargers have improved noise and vibration characteristics as well. As a result of these design changes engine manufacturers can use a smaller Eaton Twin Vortices Series supercharger to create the desired amount of boost. This provides under hood packaging advantages as well as weight savings.
Plastics:
Eaton is a global innovator of plastic molded parts. Eaton’s wide assortment of parts offers reduced weight, component integration and durability. Improved NVH and temperature management of these highly engineered parts has facilitated a shift from metal to plastic components.
For the Commercial Vehicle industry
Transmissions
Eaton’s driveline technologies are used by four of the top five heavy-duty OEMs globally and include synchronized manual transmissions (5 through 13 speeds), constant mesh manual transmissions (5 through 18 speeds) and Automated constant mesh manual transmissions (6 through 18 speeds). At Auto Expo 2012, Eaton displayed ES9306 with PTO, ES(O)11206, FS6209X, ES15409, ETS16409 and 2305.
Automated Transmissions
Eaton’s automated transmissions are known for their quality and dependability. These transmissions also improve safety, reducing driver fatigue and distractions that can lead to accidents. Eaton offers AMT in six models for linehaul and vocational use, each offers maximum power capacity, superior acceleration and low-speed maneuverability. Eaton displayed FO 16E309 ALL Ultra Shift PLUS VMS, Hybrid Technology and Bus MD AMT.
Clutches
