University studies have shown that certain dietary supplements, when taken in the correct proportions, contribute to men’s prostate health.

Amid rising concerns about increased rates of prostate cancer in men, university studies have been conducted into the prevention and treatment of this life-threatening disease. The results have shown that a variety of common plant extracts may have beneficial properties for men’s prostate health. A description of these medicinal plant extracts is provided here. Abstracts of these studies are available at the website http://www.prostateph.com

White Button Mushroom
In a study conducted by the Beckman Research Institute, the extract of the white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus), an edible mushrooms, exhibited powerful cancer-fighting properties. The extract of this mushroom exhibited powerful anti-oxidant properties and successfully inhibited the growth of prostate tumor cells and ultimately caused tumor cell death in vitro and in vivo in experimental white mice. The results of the study support the recommendation of the use of white button mushroom extract as a dietary supplement in men with increased prostate cancer risk.

Sang Huang Mushroom Extract
A group of researchers from the Harvard Medical School recently released a study which indicates that an extract of the Sang Huang mushroom, or phellinus linteus, a known anti-oxidant, was capable of reducing the rate of prostate tumor growth, as well as causing a reduction in tumor size when injected into experimental mice. Their findings demonstrate that the phytochemicals found in this common mushroom may be beneficial for men with a personal or family history of prostate issues when used regularly as a dietary supplement.

African Plum Tree Bark Extract
An extract from the bark of the African plum tree (pygeum africanum), which has been used in Europe and the United States for the treatment of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate), has shown beneficial results in a study conducted at the University of Missouri-Columbia on its effect on prostate cancer cells. Pygeum Africanum fed to experimental mice exhibit tumor-fighting properties, inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and causing tumor cell death. The researchers in the study concluded that supplements containing African plum tree bark extract may be beneficial for individuals concerned about prostate health.

All three ingredients (extracts of Sang Huang, White Button Mushroom and Pygeum Africanum) are available in the American made nutraceutical, Prostate-Ph.

Preventing prostate problems and other men’s health issues depends in part on making the right lifestyle choices. eating right, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy body weight, minimizing alcohol consumption and avoiding the use of tobacco products are indicated for optimum men’s health.
