"The Leggat Auto Group has been in business since 1919 when Roy Leggat opened his first store on the corner of King and Bay streets in downtown Hamilton."

Today, the Leggat Auto Group (LAG) announced that it has partnered with John Ellison, writer of the 1967 classic song “Some Kind of Wonderful,” on a media campaign to provide relief for victims of the January 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

The campaign will run for the month of February, and will feature radio, print and point of purchase advertising. Throughout February, donations contributed from the public to a total of $25,000 will be matched by the LAG. And, until February 12, 2010, all Canadian contributions will be matched by the federal government. All contributions will be donated to World Vision Canada, one of leading organizations in the relief effort.

The LAG commissioned Ellison to write a promotional jingle for its radio spots. Using the LAG’s tagline, “You can always count on us,” Ellison wrote a full-length song titled You Can Count On Us, which has been released on iTunes through Sonic Unyon. All proceeds from the single will also be contributed to World Vision for its mission in Haiti. To date, John Ellison is the only Canadian recording artist to record a song specifically for the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

“John Ellison wrote a great song with a great message, letting the people of Haiti know that they can count on us,” says Brian Leggat, CEO, Leggat Auto Group. “We knew that we could do something that would have a great impact on this tragic event. With John’s song, all of the pieces just fell into place.”

“I know firsthand what it means to struggle, and seeing the plight of the people of Haiti inspired me to make a difference in whatever way I could,” says Ellison. “The Leggat Auto Group had a great idea to leverage the song into a campaign, and now we’re working together to do our part to make sure that Haiti gets the help it needs.”
