Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has published an informative article about more effectively meeting design requirements for electro magnetic compatibility (EMC) and discussing the operation, benefits and drawbacks of new power components in LED luminaires.

Featured in the January issue of FTM (Future Technology Magazine), and written by Arnoldas Bagdonas, a Future Advanced Engineer at Future Electronics, the article covers the pros and cons of various design methods, shows multiple examples of different configurations, and covers a range of available technologies and solutions to help manufacturers achieve a better balance of EMC performance, material cost and production expenses.

While reliability and efficiency of the power circuit in an LED luminaire may have been impaired due to compromises brought about in an effort to meet EMC requirements in the past, new component technologies are now available which enable designers to reduce the scale of these challenges.

The author provides a helpful overview of considerations to be taken into account, and offers expert advice on a variety of architectural and circuit design choices. Bagdonas stresses the importance of prototype testing, explaining, "At the pre-production stage it is too late - or at least extremely expensive - to alter equipment or modify elements of the PCB design… Yet these are exactly the elements which can make the difference between a product passing or failing its EMC test."

The full article can be read at Page 22 ~ 24 of FTM. For additional information about LED drivers, LED luminaires, power components, LEDs, power integration, and LED lighting, along with access to the world's largest available-to-sell inventory, please visit www.FutureElectronics.com.
