Union Human Resource Development Minister, Smiriti Irani gave a pleasant surprise to the students and administrators of Anand based Dadabhai Naoroji High School run by the Charotar Education Society on Friday when a formal communication from her office confirmed that a parcel carrying mammoth 15,000 letters addressed to individual students will reach school in a couple of days.

The letters are reply to the students who had invited her individually at a time to remain present during the Centenary Celebrations of CES at DN High School. The minister not only accepted the invitation but she replied to all of the 15,000 students.

CES Chairman Nirav Patel while informing about the development said, “The history of CES goes back to 100 years. This institute has been a part of major movements during freedom struggle as well as it has been an integral part in the development of this region. The visionary behind the strong foundation is Shri Motibhai Amin, who never compromised on values. When we decided to celebrate the Centenary Year we discussed various names and Smritiji’s name was recommended as she is very popular among the students. That is when we decided to invite her.”

Nirav Patel further added, “We pondered upon various thoughts and ideas to send some innovative invitations and eventually we hit upon this idea where we asked the students only to write to the minister inviting her in their own way, in their own words. So, there were 15,000 students who were present on the day we took up the challenge. We asked them to do it in their own class rooms. There was a great enthusiasm among each of them and we were overwhelmed to see their original thoughts. While they were doing it we photographed and video shot it and later we digitized them and enclosed it with the invitation which our representatives took to Delhi to personally invite her. It became an emotional affair for Smriti Irani, when she saw that she was personally invited by 15,000 students.”

The school administration however was not aware about the surprise they were to get. “A couple of days back we received a formal communication from the ministry informing that they would be sending a parcel from Smritiji’s office. But we were not aware that the parcel is weighing over 100 kg and that it carries reply letters to each and every student who had invited her. When we informed this to our students, they could not believe it.”

Students and teachers at D N High School are now eagerly waiting for the parcel which is expected to arrive by Monday. “We are thankful to the minister who reciprocated our invitation with equal love and warmth for the students.”

The institute has rolled out a yearlong plan to celebrate the centenary year of the institute. Without affecting a single day of education or charging any extra fee, CES have chalked out 100 activities which would imbibe the values of the founders into the students. The events include social messages like save the girl child, importance of education, respect for our soldiers, responsibility towards society etc. Throughout the year, Charotar Education Society remains engaged in various activities for the empowerment of the underserved section of the society.
