The latest published article talks about an award-winning innovative design applied a decorative glass façade to a student center at Ryerson University. The university wanted to construct a student learning center with a requirement that the building qualify for LEED certification. They also had a limited budget within which the project had to be completed.

The project was awarded to Zeilder Partnership Architects and Snohetta. In order to meet the requirements of the university without exceeding the budget, a combination of glass technologies were applied. These included the application of triple glazed glass, digital ceramic in-glass printing, and low emissivity glass coating.

The result was a prominent eight-story building with a glass façade covering over 53,000 square feet of the exterior surface of the building. The architects achieved a dramatic effect by using decorative glass for the façade. An unbroken pattern was achieved through the application of digital ceramic in-glass printing.

The project’s success was largely attributed to collaboration amongst various professionals involved in the project, from architects to glass manufacturers and glazing professionals. The building features a 60% glass cover compared to the required 40% seen in many LEED-certified buildings.

More than 3,000 glass panels that underwent digital ceramic printing were used for the building which is awaiting LEED certification. The article talks about the application of glass and glass printing technologies to achieve aesthetics and energy efficiency.
