The owner of a small business in Albuquerque that specializes in massage, mobile massage therapy and several types of yoga is offering local veterans some free lessons so they can master the techniques needed for improved circulation, a calm mind and a stronger body.

Versatile Vitality is offering these free yoga classes to the veterans until the end of December and charging half price for the service after the first of the year. Owner Bernadette Gongora teaches several different types of yoga at Versatile Vitality's Nob Hill location and was motivated by her desire to help all of her clients "detach, relax and decompress."

"I was especially moved by the veterans I saw and wanted to be sure they had the chance to get exposed to the benefits of yoga and find a healthier, stronger body and mind," she said.

Gongora is a native New Mexican who lives in Albuquerque and is a graduate of the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics. Her dual massage practice/yoga studio incorporates several different types of massage therapy from the traditional Swedish to Thai and Shiatsu varieties. The location also offers deep tissue massage, reflexology and hot stone therapy.

Versatile Vitality offers Ashtanga Yoga and Yoga nidra, both of which combine physical postures and regulated breathing. Research from accredited bodies like The Exalted Warrior Foundation has found that yoga can help veterans heal from the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD.)

The positive effects of yoga on PTSD also include helping the body to regulate and calm the central nervous system and help veterans re-integrate into society. The Exalted Warrior Foundation has also found yoga helps to reveal how a veteran's body holds pain and stress and can help prepare them for the beginning of therapy.

Along with the free classes for veterans that are available now, Versatile Vitality also offers Executive Travel Assistance Services that include travel arrangements, massage services and healthy grocery shopping. The company also has a list of partner companies that include Unnata Yoga, the 3B Yoga school and the liability insurance provider, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals.
