Consumers and businesses alike are waking up to the fact that “Green is in”. The trend is being discussed extensively and in financially challenging times, on-line 'green' home based businesses are paving the way for business success.

Studio1c is an online home based business, which was established two years ago. It assists businesses with website design and development and complete project management solutions. Studio1c is a member of the Green Sites Network, one of the web sites, which engage in environmentally friendly practices and features businesses, which utilize a "green" facility or "green" practices in their operation, e.g. utilizes wind or solar power, uses recycled and/or recyclable and/or biodegradable materials on a regular basis, promotes environmentally responsible habits among their employees, partners, sub-contractors, etc (the company must have a written policy); has a service fleet composed of no less than 50% of vehicles powered by a source other than gasoline or diesel fuel, e.g. natural gas, hydrogen, electricity, or is a hybrid; has reduced their environmental impact at least 25% as compared to other similar companies; can otherwise demonstrate having taken action to reduce their environmental impact.

As a member of the Green Sites Network, Studio1c, does not encourage printing emails. The (Austin)-based start-up utilizes email marketing, online advertising, telecommuting, recycling all of the printed materials in their office, recycling printer ink cartridges, and utilizes CFL or solar lighting in its offices too. They also select a pro-bono non-profit each year, which encourages organic and green living.

According to Michelle Crossley, Creative Services Manager, Studio1c, “The majority of the people realize the importance in looking out for ways to preserve and save the environment. We are proud to be identified as a “green” business and hope to drive a trend to promote the importance of preserving natural resources.”

Studio1c helps clients through informative blogs to become “green” conscious. Employees work from home and therefore, do not contribute to auto emissions due to commuting. Hardware is powered off when not in use. The company uses Paypal for billing, taxes are done online, therefore reducing paper and printing costs. They don’t do any print advertising; Michelle promotes online advertising and eMail Marketing. Adobe Acrobat Pro allows her to have all work orders saved as editable .pdf documents. Rarely does she need to travel to meet her clients and instead utilizes email, phone or “Go To Meeting” for client meetings, training and discussions.
