PPI Complaints Set To Continue In 2010/11 – Make you PPI Claim TodayFeatured PR

Claims for PPI mis-selling continue to spiral. Banks still fob off claimants but claims that are managed well and persevere are largely successful – do not be deterred.

"PPI Return use their considerable knowledge and many years of experience of PPI claim management to break through the bluff and rhetoric many experience at the hands of banks. "

The Financial Services Ombudsman (FOS) predicts that in 2010/11 the number of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) claims will rise. FOS have anticipated a rise after first quarter figures showed that FOS received 13,520 new claims during this period. FOS have revealed that in April, May and June, 34% of all complaints escalated to FOS were for PPI claims. Of these claims that were escalated, 81% were resolved in favour of the claimant consumer.

It would appear therefore that a large majority of claims escalated to FOS result in a successful outcome for the claimant. Why therefore are so many claims escalated to FOS?

PPI Return PPI Return have found that banks and financial institutions tend to give out standard rejection letters to any PPI claims as they know this will deter a large majority of people from taking any further action. The bank’s first action tends to be to try and fob customers off. A secondary response is to offer a “goodwill gesture” and offer compensation significantly lower than the real claim value. By this stage many PPI claimants have either lost the impetus or accepted a much lesser compensation package.

PPI mis-selling has been so widespread that there is no typical demographic or individual. Many remain unaware of the fact that they were mis-sold PPI but some of those most affected include:-

• The self employed were largely mis-sold PPI as PPI terms and conditions may well have precluded them from making a claim.
• Those retired or approaching retirement. Again terms and conditions would have limited the potential cover.
• Anyone suffering from long term illness.
