Minimalism in web design is a niche among web designers that are looking to convey important content in a new way. Like just about any trend or theory in the web design world, minimalism can be easy to get wrong. It is easy to see how a minimal web design can be misconstrued as something that requires less effort or time to create. After all, conveying the feeling of simplicity and a primary focus is really the purpose of a minimal design.
Minimalism is in the refinement of something, to the point where everything non-essential is removed. It is not necessarily laziness that makes some web designers gravitate towards minimalism, or indeed simplification; for certain applications, it’s an ideal way to avoid the site’s design detracting from the content, which is after all the most important thing. And it’s by no means easy to create a good looking layout with the bare minimum of elements.
However, saying that it requires less work cannot be true. Minimal web designs are strategically stripped of excess features and gimmicks in order to deliver a clear and concise message to the target audience. So a minimalistic design is not simple, featureless, and boring. But it is a design that does the job it’s given using least possible resources, and showing only the most fundamental elements, with utmost elegance.
