The English language is a very broad language and it comes in two distinct types, American and British English. And although these two are very similar, there is a considerable difference. For example in British you spell centre with an -re at the end, whilst American is spelt as center. Pronunciation remains the same and in this article we will dwell on some English Language aspects.

Business English

Business English, like the name says is used in the business world. It remains as English, but there are certain ways in which to write business English, which are different from the normal English language. An example would be how to write an acceptance letter for a job offer.

When writing an acceptance letter, you have to be precise and stick to relevant points. State the terms that you understood and how you will benefit that particular organization. Write your joining date and your expectations.

Do not write about things that may be legally used against you, and try not to make your letter too long. Do not greet and ask how the employer's state of being is as you would do when writing to a friend.

Creative Writing

When writing a short story there are certain guidelines you have to follow in order to make your story appealing to the reader.

Your story needs to have a beginning, middle and an end. The beginning should cover the introduction, the cast and what the story is all about. The middle should be the where the plot is based and the end must be a conclusion and a round up to your story.

Ensure that your story is realistic and put everything in detail such that you catch your reader's attention and interact with them.

Essay Writing

Essay writing is one skill that you have to nurture and develop through hard work and diligence. An essay is an attempt made by you the writer to convey your ideas from a given prose into something clearer and readable by someone. There are quite a number of essay types, and these include descriptive essays and discussion essays. Expository essays are also a type.

Vocabulary

In order to be a good English writer, your vocabulary just has to be up to scratch. Examples of using correct vocabulary are discussed below:

• In Norway, winter sets in December.

• He immediately set about organizing the program

• The pilgrims set off in the morning

The use of correct vocabulary is in bold.

Punctuation

For your sentences to make sense, correct punctuation methods have to be followed.
The hyphen

Hyphens are short lines that are put in between words to join them. Words that include hyphens are ex-soldier and non-aligned.

The hyphen can also be used in adjectives that contain two parts, and the second part ends in -ing and -ed.
Period, comma, semicolon

These punctuation marks are used in various ways in writing. A period marks the end of a sentence where the reader can catch their breath. A comma is put in during a sentence to make a pause. An example would be: they need food, water and clothes.
A semicolon is used for a longer pause than a comma.
