A recent report by Hays Senior Finance shows that while many millions of pounds are spent annually on executive coaching, very few measures are put in place to measure their effectiveness. While companies across the United Kingdom recognise the value of executive coaching, only a minority implement a full coaching cycle with pre-coaching benchmarks, targets and an achievements post-mortem that critically measures the return on that investment and time.

The report also found that executive coaching was predominantly carried out by in-house staff who themselves had little training.

These findings are echoed by Rebecca Watson of Brompton Associates. In her experience, Rebecca has found that organisations gain better results when they use external coaches or facilitators to address changes to behaviour within their culture. This is because internal coaches/trainers/facilitators are also part of the very culture they wish to change.
