"I thought it would be great if those who signed onto the website would also get access to the type of great offers and deals that normally only celebrities are treated to"

The idea was conceived by television personality and celebrity mum Kate Garraway, who wanted a site that could bring celebrities (though she hates that word!) closer to their fans (a word she hates even more!) through the sharing of the types of exclusive offers and deals that they are so used to receiving as celebrities.

The concept began to take shape following the birth of Kate's son Billy in 2009. Kate knew she wanted to do something in business that would be of real value to her fans. After interacting with users over Twitter and Facebook and experiencing the immediacy of contact the sites offered with viewers of GMTV and Daybreak, she realised what an opportunity the web offered for such exchanges. The idea has since gone from strength to strength, with a number of other famous names looking for similar contact to enhance their relationships with their fans, leading to the creation of the goodypass.com framework.

goodypass.com is a combination of two modern consumer phenomena – group buying sites and the growth of social media amongst famous names, and will feature a section for the latest news from Kate, providing a personal snapshot of her life whilst also giving users a tangible and intimate contact.

On the name and idea for goodypass.com, Kate said:

“I have always known I was really lucky to be given exclusive offers and deals on all sorts of goodies just because I was on TV. I thought it would be great if those who signed onto the website would also get access to the type of great offers and deals that normally only celebrities are treated to”.

The site developed into a reality as Kate met Russian-born Internet entrepreneur Edward Shenderovich at a party. The pair spent the spring of 2010 fine-tuning the idea, before Edward's investment through his venture capital fund Kite Ventures made the site possible.

A goodypass.com launch page is online now where users can sign up for one of the limited number of free memberships on offer, and the main site will go live later this year with exclusive offers and deals for the site's members.

The site donates 5% of all its profits from the celebrity deals to the Make-a-Wish-Foundation and will save its members much, much more.
