Oil and Gas Supply Demand Outlook in Middle East and Africa to 2020

Saudi Arabia and Iran will be the Leading Crude Oil Producers in the Middle East and Africa in 2020

Saudi Arabia will continue to be the top crude oil producer in Middle East and Africa with 26% of the total production in the Middle East in both 2009 and 2020. Iran will emerge as the second largest crude oil producer in the region after Saudi Arabia. Total crude oil production in Iran is expected to be about 4642.1 thousand bpd (bpd) in 2020, more than 20% of the total crude oil production in 2009. Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Nigeria, the other major crude oil producers in the region, are expected to lose some of their share of the total crude oil production in the region by 2020.

Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq accounted for about 49% of the total crude oil consumption in the Middle East and Africa in 2009. The crude oil consumption in these countries is expected to continue to increase, to account for about 50% of the total crude oil consumption in the region in 2020. Kuwait, Syria and Yemen are the other major crude oil consuming countries in the region.

Iran currently accounts for about 21% of the total natural gas production in the Middle East and Africa. This is expected to continue to increase to about 23% by the end of the forecast period in 2020.
