CAN YOU LAST 4 HOURS? Test your endurance at the inaugural OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge 2011

Singapore, 20 January 2011 – A first of its kind, Singapore‟s only public go-karting facility Kartright Speedway will be revolutionising the corporate realm with the launch of the inaugural OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge 2011. Placing much emphasis on the importance of work-life balance while boosting the power of collaboration and successful decision-making amongst colleagues, this adrenalin-charged Challenge encourages organisations to field their best drivers to compete in a four-hour kart endurance race held at the 750-metre-long technically-challenging Kartright track. Taking place over a series of four rounds, the top four teams of the each eliminating round will return for a Grand Final battle.

Mr. Ching Wei Hong, Head of Global Consumer Financial Services, OCBC Bank, said, “Group Lifestyle Credit, together with Enterprise Banking, is happy to be sponsoring the inaugural OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge 2011. Kart endurance racing is a team sport which demands that all team drivers work well with one another. To excel in go-karting, a team needs to strategise by leveraging on each driver‟s strengths, and to possess the „play to win‟ spirit. As part of our ongoing customer engagement programme, we will be inviting our corporate customers to take part.”

“Karting has always been a good form of exercise; it improves agility of the mind and enhances dexterity of the body. Besides promoting a healthy lifestyle and work-life balance, this event also allows for networking opportunities and some friendly competition for organisations in a field outside of their work scope,” said Dato‟ Jude Benny, director of Kartright Pte Ltd.

He added, “Having the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge increases awareness of the sport in another aspect, showing that it can be enjoyed as a team sport where each driver is equally important. A kart endurance race promotes teamwork and strategy as drivers are not racing individually but in teams of four, under healthy competitive pressures where they will be driven to excel. One day, we hope to be able to grow the event into a large-scale inter-industry corporate karting challenge.”

With a brand new fleet of karts to be used purely for the series, 12 teams of six drivers (four main drivers and two reserves) will compete at each round. Every team is to rotate driving duties amongst its drivers over the course of the four-hour race. The winning team is the one that completes the most number of laps within the stipulated time period.

The entry fee of S$3,500 per team includes usage of karts, helmets, tyres and fuel, four complimentary race suits, a pre-selection round and a pre-race karting clinic where a testing session will be held and racing techniques will be taught. The pre-selection round is a qualifying session for companies to determine who their best drivers are.

There is no limit to how many teams an organisation can enter and registration is open until the first 36 teams confirm their participation. Upon successful registration, a draw will be conducted to establish which round each team will be participating in.

Opening its doors to the public on 1 October 2009, Kartright has established itself as Singapore‟s premier karting destination in its first year of operations. Over 20,000 visitors have come to the track for the myriad of activities available, resulting in a never-ending hive of activity with exciting races, rental karts, kart storage, corporate events and now Singapore‟s first corporate karting challenge.

The first round is scheduled for 21 May 2011. Register now at http://OCBC.kartright.com.
