Wherever you are, wherever your equipment, whatever your industry the exciting new Metron2 can gather valuable information and send you alarms. The Metron2 ( http://www.powelectrics.co.uk/metron2/ ) makes remote monitoring simple and affordable satisfying a range of applications and providing the user with simple yet powerful configurable options.

The Metron2 has an integral display and uses low cost wire free communications that works across the world. The Metron2 saves time & money. It is telemetry that makes sense. An intuitive user interface makes testing very straightforward as well as providing a local indication of the measured values. The Metron2 can be used to send alarms as well as gather & display data.

The Metron2 will interface to a wide range of sensor types, as well as supporting numerous protocols for onward communications. Customers who want to be in control can use their own sim cards and their own servers to collect the data. Alternatively you can use Powelectrics web based data acquisition systems or server based software to view and gather your data. For those with existing SCADA systems then interfaces are available for these as well.

The Metron 2 is a single box telemetry solution with four inputs (each with its own power supply for the sensor) and two contact outputs. It is intended to simplify the process of choosing, setting up and operating a telemetry system. It has a large LCD screen that makes on site testing quick and easy. It logs data and sends wirelessly, it sends alarms and it displays the readings on the screen. It can be powered by its own internal battery or an external power source.

Its primary means of communication is using the GSM phone networks. It is a fully quad band enabled design, allowing it to communicate using SMS and GPRS data worldwide. Pluggable terminals allow ease of wiring and an expansion slot allows future applications to be accommodated. It can be powered from the internal battery (for up to 5 years) or externally from any 6-24V DC supply. All of this functionality is wrapped up in a single IP67 rated enclosure measuring a tiny 138 x 75 x 68mm.

Powelectrics, based in Tamworth, develop and manufacture technologically advanced products which have already helped secure contracts from global giants Air Products and Shell, and the company is forecasting significant growth in the next few years, bringing new jobs to the region. The philosophy is simple – wire-free devices that are easy to install, easy to use and affordable. The range includes devices with ATEX approval for use in potentially explosive environments.

Powelectrics were successful at the 2009 British Engineering Excellence Awards. According to Powelectrics Sales Director David Oakes, the achievements in the design of the award winning Metron2 were two fold. “Traditionally, industrial products requiring installation have a poor level of user feedback, which means that the installer is working almost blind. The LCD graphical display on the Metron2 makes the commissioning process clear and simple, using a logical menu system. The display also offers local access to measurements if required.” he said. “At the same time, the Metron2 is designed to compete at the price sensitive end of the GSM/GPRS telemetry market. It proves that a compact, reliable and functional telemetry system offering a great user experience can now be realised at low cost.” Powelectrics consulted extensively with users at all levels at the final design of the menu system and the layout of information on the display, a point which particularly impressed the BEEA judges.
