MDI summer placements 2011: Average stipend Rs. 63,000

Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, recently concluded the summer placements process for the first year students of the 2010-12 batch.

The summer placements witnessed an excellent shift of increment in stipends offered to students this year. The highest domestic stipend among students from the PGPM program was INR 1.5 lakhs, while the highest international stipend stood at INR 4 lakhs. The average stipend was INR 63,000. For students from the PGP-HRM program, the highest stipend was INR 1.5 lakhs. The average stipend for PGP-HRM was INR 68,000.

As compared to the 2010 summer placements, MDI hit the chart with 115 companies recruiting 296 students (PGPM-236 and PGHR-60).

The key recruiters this year included Axis Bank, Citigroup, GE, ICICI, JP Morgan Chase, Nomura, Religare, SBI Capital and Standard Chartered Bank, Aditya Birla F&L, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, Coca-Cola India, Godrej, Google, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser. 40 companies were the first-time recruiters which included big names like Abbott, Aditya Birla F&L, Arcelor Mittal, Corning, Google, Juniper Capital, Religare, and The Times Group. Apart from private sector firms, several students chose to intern in public sector enterprises such as Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, ONGC, Punjab National Bank, etc.

The companies represented almost all the sectors of the Indian economy: banking, financial services, investment banking, consulting, FMCG, retail, manufacturing, IT, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, fashion, and media. Students have got the opportunity to discover the new sectors this time as the companies have offered various new profiles.

The highest percentage of students opted for sales and marketing profile offered by the renowned companies such as Aditya Birla F&L, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, Coca-Cola India, Godrej, Google, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser, RPG, SAP, and Vodafone, among others.

In Finance, students bagged offers for roles in investment banking, wholesale banking, equity research, asset management, treasury, trade finance, corporate finance, and private equity.
