October 18th 2011 - Jeremy Hunt MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, will open the UK’s largest international technology event - TechWorld 2011 – held at ExCeL London from November 16 – 17.

Now in its sixth year, TechWorld is hosting more than 500 handpicked international investors and buyers from more than 50 countries, plus 1,000 of the UK’s leading technology companies and more than 100 exhibitors showcasing products during two days to generate business leads, partnerships and inward investment.

Jeremy Hunt MP said: “From augmented reality to mobile healthcare and low-carbon products, the UK is already a global leader in technological innovation and has a booming digital economy. The technology sector employs a significant number of people in the UK, and TechWorld is a crucial part of attracting more investment into this industry, creating more products, expertise, value and work for the country.
“The knowledge held in the UK is second to none, which is why international delegates are so keen to visit TechWorld and develop closer working relationships with British technology entrepreneurs and organisations.”

At last year’s event 45 percent of UK technology businesses expected to generate revenue from international markets as a direct result of their attendance.

Stephen McGowan, Head of Operations, ICT Sector, at UK Trade and Investment comments: “While the European economy struggles, it is more important than ever that ambitious technology businesses in the UK look further afield to boost performance. The UK is home to some of the most innovative minds in the world and there is a strong demand from growing economies for our knowledge and products.

“TechWorld is the best event to meet and learn from global leaders in the technology industry. The total turnover for all international companies that are already attending TechWorld is more than £2 billion, and we expect this to increase significantly as more delegates continue to sign up.
“Quite simply, TechWorld is a platform for UK companies, across the spectrum of the technology sector, to establish international partnerships and receive the right advice to start exporting to new markets – opening up new revenue streams.”
