Is There An R4 Ds Card For The Nintendo 3DS Console?

The Nintendo 3DS promises 3D Gaming in your pocket without any need for 3D glasses... And it delivers. Something that seemed virtually impossible to do since the invention of 3D movies, is now possible. Yet again, Nintendo delivers a very unique and never seen before feature in their newest game console.

And Nintendo is no stranger to doing exactly that. With the Nintendo Wii, they revolutionized how people interact with and play games. Mom, Dad, even Grandma and Grandpa were all of a sudden gamers, who had an interest in playing on the Nintendo Wii. As funny as the Wii name still sounds, the sales of the console are no joke at all, and Nintendo has proven that gaming and video games in general really are for the masses - and not just for a niche market.

With the 3DS, Nintendo also promises a higher resolution screen that will enhance the 3D experience. Which is a very welcome addition on top of the 3D gaming. Even the DS and DSi had the potential for excellent games, but were completely limited both by the size of the NDS Screen as well as the really low resolution of the screens themselves, making many of the games look amateurish and substandard when compared to other hand held games.

Whats fascinating about the Nintendo 3DS is that the upper and lower screen sizes are not equal. Both the Nintendo DS and the DSi had the same sized top and bottom screen. Even the DSi XL has the same (albeit larger) screens on both the upper and lower parts of the console. Were not quite sure why the decision to go with different sized screens was made. While were going to be spending most of our time watching the top screen with its built in 3D, the lower screen most certainly needs to be used for the touch functions, exactly like on the Nintendo DS and DSi console.

While this is something, we cant help but wonder if the R4 DS Card for the Nintendo 3DS will be able to properly take advantage of the dual screens in different sizes. Mind you, nothing has stopped them in the past, so it may very well be something that is already in the works.

Perhaps the smaller bottom screen wont make much of a difference during gameplay, but most gamers do use the entire lower screen on their Nintendo DS when moving around their character or drawing the next move in some games. The brain age games are a perfect example of this. Sure, theyll be in 3D, but the bottom screen, which would be on either the left or right hand side, depending on how you use your Nintendo 3DS, will seem perhaps a bit awkward.

The question of installable software on the 3DS also poses another thought. Will there be a need for an R4 DS Card type device, that allows installing of the games onto removable media... Or will the Nintendo 3DS already allow for Homebrew gaming right from the get go. We simply dont know, and wont know until an R4 3DS Card is released (or not released) to the public and to the homebrew developers.

Regardless of the screen sizes, and the resolution. The Nintendo 3DS or 3DS will, without a doubt, once again revolutionize the way we play our games, and the type of games that will be published for this new, innovative and revolutionary hand held game system.

I just hope there will be some homebrew gaming in the form of an R4 DS Card or an R4 3DS card or something of the sort.
