Gwen Graham’s Captures the Joyous Moments in Life at Agora Gallery

Gwen Graham finds inspiration in the mountains and forests of her Canadian homeland, creating illuminated landscapes which glow with a vibrant vitality. A self-taught painter, she is actively involved in her local community of artists, finding encouragement and support as she continues to develop her skills. Born in a small town on the Canadian prairies, Gwen Graham now lives and works in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia.

Using oil paint in bright colors, Gwen Graham brings to her work the sheer joy of nature. She focuses on the small, innocent circumstances that thread our lives, and reminds us of the delight to be found in the moment. Her subjects are direct, and the result is a meditative observation of the human spirit. Using rich, opaque tones, the artist expresses a sophisticated technique which is reminiscent of the French Primitives and Post-Impressionism. The thrill of color is nearly Fauvist, but her subtle scrutiny of fleeting moments is thoroughly modern. Graham's panels resonate with a sense of stillness. There is no clatter, no feeling of hustle and bustle, just a resolute understanding of truth. "Life was meant to be enjoyed and there are wonders all around us," says Graham. Her paintings succeed in being both tangible and transcendent at once.
Hailing from a Canadian village, Gwen Graham instills her work with the charm of the scenery of Western Canada. She has been painting and exhibiting for nearly a decade.

About the Exhibition:

Agora Gallery dives into the New Year with three exhibitions which explore the rich potential revealed through the creative power of art. Figuratively Speaking investigates the varying sources of inspiration that motivate and direct artists in their imaginative process. Combining a reflection on the most esoteric levels of experience with an understanding of the innately physical nature of the world, these works display a sensitive and emotive comprehension of what it means to be human. The art in Portal to Enigma looks to the hidden secrets and mysteries that help to define existence as we know it, approaching these intriguing topics from a variety of intelligent and innovative perspectives. The result is appealing, thought-provoking and ultimately represents a call to alter the way we view the world and each other. The artists of Degrees of Abstraction concentrate on encapsulating the essence of what they see and sharing their unique viewpoint with their audience. Focusing on form, shape and color in their determination to portray their personal vision, they achieve the ability to construct their message in universal terms as well. The exhibitions will open on January 17, 2012 and run until February 7, 2012. The opening reception will take place on Thursday January 19, 2012 at 6-8 PM. Entrance is free and all art enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.
