Advantage Credit Counseling Service, Inc. (ACCS) has recently been approved by the Executive Office for the U.S. Trustee (EOUST) to expand its pre-filing bankruptcy counseling services to 13 new states for consumers who intend to file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcies. A basic condition under the bankruptcy law stipulates that consumers must receive mandatory credit counseling from an approved agency within 180 days prior to filing for bankruptcy. This provision of federal bankruptcy law ensures that individuals understand all of their options and that they have the necessary knowledge and tools to develop a sound financial plan for the future.

The 13 new states are Connecticut, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.

AdvantageCCS is also able to offer bankruptcy counseling to the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

"We are really excited to be approved to offer our bankruptcy counseling services to 13 new states," said ACCS President and CEO Stephen Piotrowski. "It is a confirmation to the hard work and quality service that our agency employees provide to those in need. We look forward to servicing many more people that are thinking about filing for bankruptcy", Piotrowski said.

AdvantageCCS has completed over 5,600 bankruptcy counseling sessions in 2011. According to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC), "the criteria set forth by EOUST reflects a very strong commitment…to ensure that the counseling and education provisions are substantive in nature and of the highest quality."
